Air Quality Assessment
Nowadays, the province of Cádiz has 26 monitoring stations: 1 located in the city centre, 2 in the surrounding towns and other 3 in the rest of the province (most of them are concentrated in the Bay of Algeciras). The registered pollutants are: NO, NO2, NOx, SO2, PM10, CO, O3 and BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Etilbenzene and Xylenes). The values registered in the monitoring stations are permanently supervised by a 24 Hours Service, which immediately alerts to the population in case of exceedance or other pollutant episode.

The air quality information sent is relative to the group of four municipalities of Bahía de Cádiz (Cádiz, Puerto Real, San Fernando y Puerto de Santa María).

A diary report on these data is available here (in Spanish).

Other measures are realized by different periodicity to get information about places where there are not other measurement systems, to optimize the monitoring network or to determine the representative area of the monitoring stations:
  • Diffusive samples of NO2, NOx, SO2, O3 and BTEX.
  • Mobile units measurement campaigns.
As shown before, the Environmental Department of the Regional Government elaborates annually an Atmospheric Emission Inventory. This inventory is detailed to a municipal level and for all activity sectors.

There is a calibration laboratory credited by ENAC (National Entity of Spanish Accreditation) according to the reference document UNE EN ISO 17025 that provides quality assessment to all the measures realized by the analyzers. There are some mobile units credited by ENAC according to the reference document UNE EN ISO 17025, to carry out environmental analyses and according to the reference document UNE EN ISO 17020 for the accomplishment of environmental inspections, which assure the quality and representation of the analytical obtained results.
